Twin son of Sir Hal Courtney, he is the elder to his brother, Guy Courtney, by a couple of hours. He most resembles his father in both spirit and flesh. He has the eye and hand of a warrior, but is no scholar. His brother, Dorian, is kidnapped when they are young and he and his father try to rescue him, but he is forced to return to England when tragedy strikes. He is forced to kill his own brother, William, in self-defense, and is wanted by police for the crime. He flees to Africa where he falls in love and settles down with Sarah Beatty. After many years apart, he eventually reunites with Dorian.
